The two benches that you see in the garden have a story behind them. They are dedicated to two students that have passed away in the 2022-2023 academic year. The first is for Torriano Anderson. The second is for Sarah Hadfield. Below are photos of the dedication of the benches to the students and their families.
Each bench is engraved with their names, so that they may live on in our hearts.
In light of this garden's goal to help the environment, we thought what better way to get benches, than to recycle them out of plastic? We partnered with the ABC Green Tree Plastics Program in Evansville, IN, to help us out. We started a fundraiser in the school in which we collected all kinds of plastic lids and caps. An honorable mention goes out to the Anderson family, who, without their help, we wouldn't have reached our goal. Then started the sorting and weighing process. We went through all the caps, taking out ones that were not recyclable, and weighing the rest. We reached a total of over 450 pounds! Then, we washed the caps and drove them all the way to Evansville to pick up our benches. Thank you to the Berrien Community Foundation, who helped pay for our benches! Now, they are benches anyone can enjoy.
