Of all the clubs at BSHS, the Cheese Club was the first to be filled with a total of nineteen members, and it appears to be getting more popular every day. I had the pleasure of speaking with the head of the Cheese Club, Mr. Wright. He told me all about his club, including how they get their cheese, how the club was started, and about some of their plans for this year.
According to Mr. Wright, they had “last year 53 different cheeses from across the world.” Some were domestic cheeses, but many were from all over the country, or from different countries. In addition, Mr. Wright was part of his own cheese club called “Amazing Clubs” which provided him with three exotic cheeses every month to try. Each month he would bring in the three cheeses in addition to whatever the people in charge of that day would bring.
So how does the cheese club operate? It takes place in the lobby in the athletic wing, utilizing the concession stand. Each meeting two people are picked to be in charge of bringing the food. I say food because despite focusing primarily on cheese, they also have meat and crackers. In fact, the parents of kids are very involved in the club as well. The mother of one student says, “We got this meat from Ohio, and you can only buy it from Ohio. I can’t wait to get that for you guys.” Mr. Wright has also received emails from parents saying how much their kids love the Cheese Club and how amazing of an idea they thought it was.
The Cheese Club started last year with one of Mr. Wright’s outdoor Ed classes. All teachers have to either be in a club or take a study hall. Three of his students suggested he start a Cheese Club since they knew he likes cheese. At first Mr. Wright thought that no one would even want to join a cheese club, but when he asked his class, several students' hands went up. So, he gave it a try, started the Cheese Club, and it was a bigger hit than he could have imagined. According to Mrs. Pittman, the Cheese Club was actually the first to be filled of all the other clubs in our school.
This year Mr. Wright plans to join "Amazing Clubs" again and hopes to add to their list of exotic cheeses this year, and from there we will just have to wait and see where this unique club goes.

The Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) has been talking about ways to help the community, and so far, they have come up with food banks as well as clothing drives. Another subject was fundraisers and charities. The charities mentioned up to this point are the Trevor Project, the PA Youth Center, and the Victim Center in Carlisle. As for the fundraisers, there is one that is going to happen soon, but it is unknown when, and it will be a bake sale. At the bake sale, there will most likely be fruit based treats. The last thing that was talked about was education. GSA members also would like to learn more about the laws for and against the LGBTQ+ community. Finally, they discussed gathering more information on ads. If you would like to learn more about the GSA, go to room 104 and talk to Mrs. Moses.
