CHCI is offering a free month long virtual summer leadership experience designed just for Latino high school students. Spend a month creating lasting friendships and wonderful memories with young Latino leaders from across the country. Participate in R2L® NextGen and make this a summer to remember!
Usually an in-person opportunity for students to spend 5 days in Washington, DC learning about how the Federal Government works, meeting important leaders, visiting historical sites and developing a deeper understanding of how they can affect positive change in their communities and nation.
The Princeton Summer Journalism Program (PSJP) is one of the only programs of its kind offering a free, innovative residential journalism and college prep institute for high achieving high school juniors from low-income backgrounds.
Over ten days every summer, up to 40 students from across the country explore current events and world affairs through workshops and lectures led by Princeton professors, professional journalists, and alumni on campus. The summer program culminates in the publication of the Princeton Summer Journal, the student-produced newspaper. During their senior year, students are matched with a personal college adviser, who will work with them on their college admissions process.
Eligibility:
Be a junior in high school at the time of application
Live in the US + plan to attend college here
Unweighted GPA of 3.5 out a 4.0
Interest in journalism
Meet at least one of the socioeconomic conditions below:
combined income cannot exceed $60,000
qualify for free or reduced price lunch
qualify for an SAT or ACT fee waiver

The LEAH Knox Scholars – Biomedical Research Internship is run in partnership with Massachusetts Institute for Technology (MIT). It is a virtual five-week paid summer research experience designed to give rising high-school juniors and seniors the skills needed for biomedical research, while also providing them with college and career readiness support.
Qualifications:
Be a rising BPS junior or senior
At least 16 years old by July 5th, 2021
Interested in field of science
Expected to continue with the LEAH Project during the school year
Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) and youth from low-income backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply!
The LEAH Project – STEM Internship is a virtual five-week paid internship for youth to receive college and career readiness support and participate in interactive workshops focused on technology. Youth will work with scientists from MIT and have the opportunity to network with scientists in STEM & biomedical research.
Qualifications:
Be a rising BPS sophomore or junior
Must be 16 years old by July 5th, 2021
Interested in STEM studies, teaching or peer leadership

Applying to college can seem daunting, and the prospect of paying for it can seem even more overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be. The College Prep Scholars Program equips high-achieving high school juniors from low-income backgrounds with the knowledge, confidence, and resources to apply to top colleges.
Applications due Wednesday, March 24th
Eligibility:
Any high school junior currently attending a US high school
Planning on applying to college during the fall of their senior year
Academic criteria: Mostly A's in challenging courses
Financial qualifications: Households that earn less than $65,000 annually for a typical family of four
College 101 series features free, bilingual, three-hour, college preparation workshops held virtually in various time zones. The programs are designed to help high school students and their parents prepare, plan and pay for college.
Topics include preparing for and applying to college, choosing a college that's a right fit, writing a personal statement, researching financial aid and scholarship opportunities and understanding the real cost of a college education.
Students and parents can choose to attend a session in either English or Spanish.
The Youth Leadership Institute is a free, five day college empowerment program for high achieving Latinx/e/o high school juniors held at two top universities across the US (held virtually this year).
Application opens Monday, March 1st and closes Friday, April 9th
Attendees will enhance their leadership abilities and expand their professional network by participating in college and career workshops, and interacting with college students and professionals who serve as their mentors.
Student Qualifications:
Current high school junior
Cumulative GPA above a 3.0 out of a 4.0 scale
Identify as being from Hispanic heritage
Attends high school in the US
Must be US citizen, permanent resident, DACA or eligible non-citizen
Plan to enroll full-time in a four year degree program at a US college/university after graduation
