Class of 2002

Nicole Cey

Where are you now?

After graduating from KHS, I was lucky enough to experience further education and sport in Edmonton. I took on various volunteer roles while in Edmonton, including running the UofA competitive curling club. I experienced great success while in Edmonton receiving scholarships for academic achievement during all four years of my degree. In 2006, I returned to the area I grew up in. I got married, went travelling and got my first teaching job in Kitscoty. I have been married for 14 years now, have two awesome kids and continue to enjoy teaching and learning at the school I grew up in!

Did you have any additional training or education after high school?

After high school, I was able to take advantage of scholarships and attend the University of Alberta for a Bachelor of Education degree with a major in Biology and minor in Mathematics. In addition, I have taken further training in curling coaching and inquiry based learning.

How did Kitscoty High School prepare you for success?

Kitscoty High School prepared me for success by providing me with awesome mentors as teachers who always challenged me to work harder and think more deeply. It also provided me with endless opportunities to compete in sports, which taught me the value of teamwork, focus and a competitive spirit. This school gave me connections and friendships that I have continued to enjoy and rely on in my adult life.

Do you have a memorable staff member who you feel positively made a difference in your life?

The staff all worked together to provide a balanced and diverse support system. From all the hours Terry King put in in the gym, to the passion Hugh Forrester displayed in the classroom, to the professionalism of Brian Micklich; the staff are a huge part of why I wanted to become an educator.
