Class of 2016

Spencer Budden

Where are you now?

Thanks to the teachings and motivation I received in my time at KJSHS I now am a home owner and drive a brand new truck. I work in a position I love and I am able to volunteer my time as a firefighter in my local fire service.

Did you have any additional training or education after high school? Please explain.

After High school I immediately attended post secondary at the Vermilion Fire School or Lakeland Fire Emergency Training Centre.

How did Kitscoty High School prepare you for success?

The after school leadership program helped me in many ways in junior high, as it let me come out of my shell. In senior high when I was a big part of helping to organize the Remembrance Day ceremony, Mrs.Harty-Blank taught me alot about delegation and consideration of a big picture to help plan things more successfully. This is something that has helped me prepare for large events where I must delegate where different security would be most beneficial, taking into consideration that attendees don't want to feel harassed or watched but in the same sense they like the idea of a secure event.

Do you have a memorable staff member who you feel positively made a difference in your life? Explain.

I would have to say Ms.Paull or Mrs.Carter, they really helped me prepare for life. These women were staff members I always felt confident in speaking with about all problems. Whether it be I'm anxious about an upcoming test or I had relationship problems, they were always able to reassure me that these were just issues teenagers would face and it wasn't the end of the world.

A notable memory with Ms.Paull would be going to Drama rehearsal, hating the idea of getting poked in the eye with 'dang mascara brushes' so I learned to do it myself, and no matter how much I tried to skimp out on it she always told me to go back and redo it. I eventually learned to just flaunt it and treat it as part of the club.

A notable memory I have with Mrs.Carter would be the French trip, we went to an artesian food market in Quebec City and she wanted us to try new foods. Myself, Chandler and Austin found a McDonalds on the edge of the market, we went there to get our lunch and when she was walking by with her husband Adam she was curious as to what we decided on trying. When she saw the McDonalds bags she tried to act disappointed but it was pretty funny afterwards I replied with something along, "we are trying something new, I've never had McDonalds in Quebec before."
