RUBRIC
Literature has the power to capture ideas, attitudes and experiences of the individual. In this unit, students explore a variety of texts and textual forms that examine and capture experiences of Aboriginal Australians throughout history. They consider how aspects of individual and collective identity are shaped in texts.
Students explore Indigenous voices in poetry, a picture book and film and reflect on how each of the different forms reflect an Aboriginal identity. Students identify common and disparate themes and issues in the texts, furthering their understanding of Australian history, in doing so, develop an empathic understanding.
Through reading, responding and composing, students deepen their understanding of how language can be used to communicate experiences, attitudes and beliefs about themselves, individuals and cultural groups. In their responding and composing students craft analytical responses which demonstrate understanding of how context and language shape meaning.
