Safety and Participation

In order to assure the safety of all students and adults involved in the construction of the tiny home, a safety plan has been developed. This plan (found below) describes the roles, activities, and expectations of each type of participant.

  • Primary Coordinators
    • Dr. Brent Hollers and Mr. Scott Findlay are the primary coordinators for this project.
    • They along with anyone else that desires to help coordinate the project must:
      • Be an employee of the Archdiocese
      • Be current on Virtus training
      • Complete the OSHA Job Site Safety Training Course
    • A primary coordinator will always be on site during construction.
  • Adult Facilitators / Participants
    • We anticipate that parents, faculty, and members of the church community will want to be involved in the project.
    • These individuals must be Virtus trained and must complete safety training provided by a primary coordinator prior to participation.
    • Additionally, it is emphasized that these individuals will be on site to assist with teaching the requisite skills necessary and supervising the building of the tiny home. However, students are the primary builders and participants.
  • High School Students
    • Must complete tool and job site safety training that includes a test and demonstration of knowledge. Regular opportunities for this training will be provided by a primary coordinator.
    • Students must have a signed parent release (see Appendix C).
    • Students may never exceed more than a 10:1 ratio of students to Adult Facilitators / Primary Coordinators.
    • Use of edged power tools will be restricted to only trained students age 16 and above.
  • Jobsite Safety
    • The following general rules will apply to all participants:
      • Hard hats must be worn at all times
      • Closed toe shoes must be worn at all times
      • Safety glasses must be worn at all times
      • Hearing protection must be worn whenever a power tool is in use
    • Signs that list each of these job site rules will be posted throughout the space to ensure that participants are constantly reminded of safety procedures.
    • Safety equipment will be provided by the Blessed Trinity Robotics Team and will be managed by the primary coordinators.
