Assessment Feature

In the late summer of 2017 Schoology released their new "Assessment" feature, complete with new enhanced question styles.

Does this mean Quiz/Test is going away?

Eventually, yes. The plan is to have the Assessment feature replace the Quiz/Test feature. Once Assessments has all the wrinkles ironed out, Schoology will very visibly release a tool that allows you to convert your Quiz/Test into Assessments. Once that tool is released, Schoology will announce when they plan on permanently retiring the Quiz/Test feature. You will want to be sure you have converted your files to the new Assessment feature BEFORE then.

There are new question styles in Schoology available via the new Assessment feature. Those question styles include:

From Schoology Asssesments to eDoctrina

This video shows one strategy for transferring assessments from Schoology to eDoctrina.

PLEASE NOTE: Your mileage may vary; depending on how your assessment is built in Schoology may impact how easily the assessment can be copied to eDoctrina. Please also keep in mind that NYS exam questions are in the question banks available in eDoctrina, so you're question might already be there. If you need help with this, please feel free to reach out to Emily or Rick.

Highlight Image

This question type allows the teacher to upload a picture as the background of the sketch pad, and students can annotate on the image with a variety of colors. Additionally, the question records the student's work so teachers can playback the answer as it was made (without sound).

Math Short Answer

Not only has the question editor improved dramatically, but you as the teacher can select which tool sets with be available to your students. They not longer have to hunt through ALL the options; just the ones you specify in the question. NOTE: This is not a calculator, this is an equation editor/entry method.

Highlight Text

This question style allows for users to highlight paragraphs/sentences/words (depending on teacher set up) in a passage. This can be used to show where supporting facts can be found, or in a coding environment where a bug resides in the lines of code.

Number Line

Teachers can set the min and max values of the number line, as well as the spacing options. You can set integers and/or fractions. That means this question style can be used for everything from a math question to a chronology question. Settings allow for answer boxes to snap to a line or be placed freely. Answers can be set to require exact placement, or allow for a threshold

Chart

This question allows the teacher to set how many columns, as well as the titles, and the students are then able to independently adjust the height of each column as desired.

Fill in the Blank Drag and Drop

Schoology ramped up the fill in the blank (with a word bank) question style with the ability to drag and drop the word into the blank. Seems simple, but fill in the blank questions were a little tricky for some students in the past.

Highlight Hotspot

In this question style, the teacher uploads a picture and draws shapes around specific areas of the picture (slightly yellow tinge in picture to the left). Students can then click on these "hotspots" to answer the question.

Here is a link to a YouTube channel created by a fellow Schoology Ambassador, Glen Irvin, with an deeper look at each question style. The Assessment feature videos start at #48 last time I checked.
