The session is designed to equip elementary principals with clear and practical "look fors" to support effective math instruction. Participants will explore key indicators of high-quality teaching and learning through a sample classroom observation tool from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), with a focus on providing actionable feedback to teachers. The session will also highlight connections to the Standards for Mathematical Practice and the recently released NYSED Numeracy Briefs, offering meaningful context to guide instructional reflection and staff development.

As AI tools and platforms rapidly enter classrooms and school systems, educational leaders are being asked to make decisions with far-reaching ethical implications. This session will engage district and building administrators in an exploration of the plausible ethical dilemmas associated with AI implementation. This interactive session will support leaders in identifying practical strategies to mitigate bias and develop thoughtful protocols for AI adoption that center student/staff well-being and fairness.
Leaders will gain a foundational understanding of how algorithmic bias can present in educational AI platforms and examine real-world scenarios relevant to public school settings. The session will include structured opportunities to collaboratively analyze these scenarios tied to automated decision making, data privacy, and analytics for identifying at risk students determined by AI systems, & more —all through an equity lens.

As classrooms evolve to meet the demands of modern learning, administrators play a critical role in supporting and guiding teachers through transformational shifts in instruction and assessment. Grounding in ASCD & ISTE’s Transformational Learning principles and the NYS Portrait of a Graduate will provide administrators with a strategic framework to lead meaningful change, ensuring that teaching and learning evolve to cultivate student agency, deeper learning, and real-world connections.

Attendees will learn about our very own Peer Support Program, our M-Eals Program, and other ways we use community partnerships to protect and promote staff well-being.
