Setting Parental Controls

It may be helpful to set up filters on your home computers to help keep your children safe. Please note that any filter is not perfect and may not work in all situations (using Chrome over Edge / Firefox, etc.). While the filter helps, we would also encourage adult participation into what the student is doing and looking at.

Please find below steps on how to set up filters for different operating systems.


Chromebook

iOS:

Settings > Screen Time

(scroll down) User Screen Time Passcode - it is recommended to enter a passcode

(after entering passcode) Content & Privacy Restrictions

Content & Privacy Restrictions = ON


Mac OS 10.14.x:

Set up "Standard" user account

Apple Logo (top left) > System Preferences

Parental Controls

(Highlight User) > Web (tab) > Try to limit access to adult Websites (selected)


Mac OS 10.15.x:

Set up "Standard" user account

Apple Logo (top left) > System Preferences

Screen Time

Options (bottom)

User Screen Time Passcode = Checked (enter passcode via Change Passcode... button)

Content & Privacy

Content & Privacy Restrictions: ON (Turn On... button)

Content = Limit Adult Websites


Windows 10:

Requires logging into the computer with a Microsoft account

Create a "Family" at https://family.microsoft.com

Create a family / sign in

Family member (email address must be the same as the account on the computer)

Manage Permissions > More Options > Content restrictions

Web Browsing > Block inappropriate websites = ON
