Stage 3 - Planning your TOK essay

Once you have chosen your title, the next stage is to decide on each of the following:

• The key terms which will need to be explained/justified in the introduction. Remember this is not about dictionary definitions, rather it is where you explain your interpretation and how you will use them in your essay.
• What will be your overall approach or your "line of argument"?
• Which AOKs you will use: some titles specify two and for these you must use two AOKs. Others do not specify but two is likely to be an appropriate number (if you want to do more discuss with your Core teacher).
• What will be your knowledge claims and counterclaims for each AOK? Keep these focused on your chosen PT!!!
• Which WOKs will you include and how?
• Which RLSs will you use to support your arguments/discussion? Remember that you should try to avoid "the usual" - your essay needs to be original and interesting.
• What will your conclusion be? Remember that you need to come to a decision/come down on one side of the argument and justify your position. How will you conclude and how will you justify it?
• How will you handle academic honesty and referencing?
