HUMANITIES with MR. BOYLE

For whatever reason, the question of how the government of the United States was organized immediately after the signing of the Declaration of Independence is sometimes de-emphasized. But in the period 1776-1787, the Articles of Confederation were important to the successful growth of a new nation. We consider the Articles as a repudiation of monarchical government, and the conduit to a more mature governing document to come later in 1787. So, the question of the week remains - what were the Articles of Confederation?

Language Arts with Ms. Ferro

Hi, Team Evolution! This is our first week reading Trash Vortex by Danielle Smith-Llera. While very short, this informational text is packed full of dense, scientific information. Starting on Tuesday, we will learn about Cornell Notes, which is an organized way to capture facts and reactions about the text.

Next Tuesday, May 6, we will be taking a walking field trip to Texaco Beach where a team of UVM scientists will help students collect and analyze plastic pollution found on the shores of Lake Champlain.

MATH with Mr. Monahan

7th Grade Class:

This week we are focused on order of operations and using PEMDAS. We will have a lot of in class activities to support our learning such as using DESMOS, Math Pizzazz Puzzle, and Facing Math.

8th Grade Class:

We are finishing with Exponent Rules and will have one homework/practice worksheet on using all the exponent rules that will be do Friday. Here is the LINK

Science with Mr. Merkert

This week, students will finish studying photosynthesis this week. They will review what they have learned about the cycle of matter and the flow of energy through photosynthesis and cellular respiration. They will complete a study guide and take a test on their skills in modeling these processes.

Ask your child:

Explain how matter cycles through photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
Explain how energy flows through photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
Where does the matter that plants use to grow come from?

We will use this site to share what is happening in each of our core classes and provide you with conversation starters. Families will receive an email with a link to this site every time it is updated. More detailed assignment information can be found in Schoology.
