As I stepped into my role as Co-Editor-in-Chief, I quickly realized that many members of my team did not yet understand how to publish their stories. We also had not yet appointed a social media manager.
I took on copy editing for the online paper and published every story. We appointed a social media manager and I developed and ran a publishing/posting schedule for the two of us to follow.
I created the schedule with audience engagement in mind, prioritizing online publication of the most timely stories while also allowing each story to have its own highlight moment on the website to shine.
Though I was thrown into the role, I adapted to the challenges that came with this management. In the past week, I have taught our managing editor how to undertake this role and will continue to guide her in posting content that will bring new audiences in.
