Shoulder Rolls
While taking deep breaths roll your shoulders in one direction stretching as far in all directions as you can. After 15 seconds switch directions.
You can do this exercise with arms down by your sides. Arms like chicken arms. Or Arms straight out. Try out different ways and see which one feels best to you for stretching.
Tree Reach
With feet slightly apart slowly reach one arm up towards the ceiling. Once your arm is fully extended above your head reach just a little further stretching your side. Switch arms. Repeat 10 times on both sides.
Pet the Dog
Place one arm over your head lightly putting pressure with the weight of your arm (do not pull!). Reach down with your free hand like you are just able to pet the top of a dog's head, reaching your arm forward and backwards slightly. After 15 seconds switch sides.
Hang Down
Feet wider than your shoulders apart hang your body down to the ground. If your fingers can reach the ground have your hands grab your elbows and relax into the hanging posture. After 15 seconds slowly sway your body to the right and left feeling a stretch. After another 15 seconds slowly roll up starting with the bottom of your spine finishing with lifting your head.
Side Reach
With feet wide apart pull one arm over your stomach and the other arm raise over your head. Lean in the direction that your raised arm is pointing. Slowly stretch in that direction for 15 seconds. Switch sides. Repeat if needed.
You can also do this one with hands together above your head.
Neck Roll
Relax shoulders so they hang down loosely. Turn your head to one side feeling a stretch on the opposite side of your neck. Pause then slowly roll your head down to your chest and up to the side feeling a stretch on the opposite side. Pause and roll back to your starting side. Repeat 4 times.
Self Shoulder Massage
Take one arm and place it on the opposite shoulder. With the flat part of 3 to 4 fingers and light pressure in circular motions. 15-30 seconds. Repeat on other side.
(You may use your other arm to gently help your arm massaging get into place.)
Swinging Arms
With arms hanging loose by your side turn your body at a speed where your arms easily swing around your body. When your arms wrap around you let out your aid in a "Huh" sound (doesn't need to be loud, just a release of air) and pause before going in the opposite direction. Repeat 4 times.
Hiss Out
Taking a deep breath hiss out air as quickly as you can leaving nothing behind. Feel the force of your stomach muscles. Now hiss out as weakly as you can. Notice the sound of the hiss, and lack of muscle use. A third time hiss out while thinking that your stomach is actually stretching outward at a constant steady speed. See how long you can hiss out at this 3rd level.
Ketchup
Make the following unvoiced sounds 4 times each in a steady beat. Be as clear as possible with those consonants and the release of explosive air. Notice what motion your stomach makes when starting each sound.
"Kuh Kuh Kuh Kuh"
"Tuh Tuh Tuh Tuh"
"Chu Chu Chu Chu"
"Puh Puh Puh Puh"
Repeat 4 times
In and Out
Close your eyes and have your feet slightly apart.
Slowly breath in through your nose until you feel full of air then breath out on an "Ah" mouth shape (no sound). Repeat 4 times.
Same as before but breath out on an "O" "I" "E" mouth shape. Repeating 4 times each.
Notice how the air moves differently out of your body each time.
Surprise Breath
Blow out all of your air from your body. Pretend like you are being surprised and take in in deep breath through your mouth. Make sure to drop your jaw, and breath in to your stomach. Repeat 5 times taking pauses between each breath to slowly breath out the air you breathed in.
Paper to wall
Take a small piece of paper about the size of an index card and hold it against the wall. Standing so your mouth is 1-2 inches away from the paper start blowing in a steady stream. Take your hand away from the paper. See how long you can keep the paper against the wall. Repeat 2 or more times. Once you get the hang of it back up another inch or two and repeat.
Hanging Back Breath
Feet slightly apart hang your body down to the floor. Once your body is hanging down take in a deep breath. Where do you feel the air going besides your stomach? Take a few deep breaths in this position. Slowly roll up. Take more deep breaths trying to focus your air on expanding your stomach and back.
Jug Breath
Standing up tall, place one hand at the bottom of your stomach. Pretend like you have a jug in your body that is large in your stomach, and then has a long small opening at the top that leads to your neck. Your shoulders are not part of the jug. Take in a deep breath pretending that the air you are breathing is filling your jug like water would. Where does water fill a jug first? Make sure not to move your shoulders. Repeat
Fill the Balloon Breath
Take a deep slow breath in through a straw shaped mouth. Once you are comfortably full hold your breath for 5 seconds. Breath in again another second (don't breath out!) Hold for another 5 seconds. Either take another breath in or let out the air you have in your body. You should feel over filled with air, stretching your lungs.
