Welcome to Team Infinity Math. Here are a few expectations that will help you succeed in learning math this year.
Get a good night’s sleep. Studies have shown that adolescents need between 9 to 10 hours of sleep.
Bring a good attitude and willingness to take risks in math. Have a growth mindset about learning math.
Seek extra help when you don’t understand a concept, skill, directions, and/or problem.
Bring a pencil in class. Also, you should use a pencil for all math assignments to receive full credit on them.
Bring a 3-ring binder to class and keep it organized. Most of the assignments are worksheets. You’ll want to have an organized binder to help you study and review your notes.
Put your name, date, and section on the top right hand corner on ALL math worksheets in order to receive full credit for your work.
Do your work. Home and class assignments are graded based on effort and following directions. Mistakes will happen and I do not believe in penalizing students for the wrong answers on homework.
To receive full credit on an assignment, you need to have 1) your name, date, and section on the top right hand corner of any worksheet; 2) the work is done in pencil; 3) all the problems are answered and the work is completed to the best of your ability. Note: Usually an assignment will take about 20 to 30 focused minutes. If you don’t complete the assignment in the allotted time, you may receive full credit if you have your parent or guardian sign off on the assignment stating that you have worked on it for at least 20 focused minutes. Please note, you’re are still responsible for the material assigned and may need to seek out extra help from me.
When an assignment is collected, I will correct some or all of the problems, give you feedback or comments on some or all of the work. Please look over the feedback given. When assignment is gone over in class, it is your responsibility to get down the corrections. Your corrections should be clear and done in pen or colored pencil so you can distinguish your work from the corrections done in class.
You’ll have a several small “check-ins” throughout each term to check for your understanding of the material. In addition, you’ll have major assessments after a few sections of each unit of study. In the event of a poor score, you’ll will be allowed to correct most of your assessments to increase your grade and hopefully your understand of the material being assessed.
