DAY 1/SESSION 2 will be an hour and 45 minutes and will include mostly skill testing - serving, passing, setting, hitting, blocking.
DAY 2/SESSION 3 will be an hour and 45 minutes long and include skill testing and game play.
DAY 2/SESSION 4 will be an hour and 45 minutes and will be a mix of anything the coaches would like to see more of to make team decisions. Ideally, all athletes will leave this session knowing if they have made a team or not.
HOW TEAMS WILL BE SELECTED
Each athlete will be fairly and thoroughly evaluated by multiple coaches over at least 4 sessions. The goal of the tryout process is to create teams with the highest probability of program success - both short and long term. Success means wins, but also teamwork, motivation, skills, intensity, athleticism, potential and ATTITUDE.
DECISIONS WILL BE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING:
Attitude: Demonstrated respect for self, team, and coaching staff. “No Quit” attitude. “No Excuses” attitude.
Specific Volleyball Skills: Passing, serving, defensive skill, setting, hitting, blocking, etc.
Physical/Athletic Ability: speed, strength, endurance, explosiveness.
Intangibles: communication, ability to understand the game, coach-ability, energy (mental and physical), positive competitiveness, quick recovery from setbacks, dedication to the sport, team and program.
Note: If multiple athletes have similar skill level and physical abilities, decisions will always be based on attitude, intangibles.
TEAM/CUT ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Cuts will not be posted online, and athletes will be told personally.
Cut decisions will not be taken lightly, and we would love the opportunity to talk to any ATHLETES that would like an explanation after tryouts. Meetings can be set up on Thursday August 17th and Friday August 18th, and must be set up BY THE ATHLETE. Meetings requested by parents will not be accepted.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The maximum number of athletes on any sub-varsity team will be 10 - there will be cuts at all levels
Making a team does not guarantee playing time - playing time will be fair/not equal and based on attitude, effort, skill, attendance and team compatibility.
Coaches will take desired positions into account. However, no position is ever guaranteed. Players will be placed in positions where they most benefit the team and the program, which could change throughout the season. Positions are based on the needs of our program, and a player’s position from last year or from another school or club program does not determine where they best fit this season.
