Written pieces should be submitted in the PDF or Microsoft Word (.docx) format.

Length:
Flash fiction and short stories should be less than 2,000 words.
Essays and creative non-fiction should be less than 2,000 words and more than 300 words. More scholarly papers are more likely to be rejected, as we prioritize literary works.
No more than three poems may be submitted by one person. Poems should range from 75 to 500 words, but shorter or longer poetry may be accepted.
A Word On Submissions:
BLUEGILLS is a non-monetary, not-for-profit magazine. Because we are volunteer run and completely independent, our response times will vary. Please assume that if you have not heard from us within three to four months of your submission that your work was not accepted. There is no fee to submit and there is no payment for accepted authors. If you are submitting a written piece that falls into the categories above, proceed to the "Submit Creative Works" button. If you have questions pertaining a work that may be of mixed media, and you would like to submit that work, proceed to "Extra Categories Submission"
