Advanced Placement courses give students the unique opportunity to tackle college-level work while still in high school. And through demonstrating knowledge on AP Exams, students can earn college credit and higher placement in college courses. In the past several years, Barnwell High School has offered AP courses in both Human Geography and Calculus.

The Advanced Placement Human Geography (APHG) course introduces students to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of Earth's surface. Students employ spatial concepts and landscape analysis to examine human social organization and its environmental consequences. They also learn about the methods and tools geographers use in their science and practice. It is an excellent course for preparing students to become geo-literate youth and adults.
The AP Calculus AB course will allow students to explore the concepts, methods, and applications of both differential and integral calculus. Students will work to understand the theoretical basis of calculus as well as solve problems by applying mathematical knowledge and skills. They will determine expressions and values using mathematical procedures and rules, connect representations, justify reasoning and solutions, and use correct notation, language, and mathematical conventions to communicate results and/or solutions.
