FALL SIDELINE SEASON OPEN GYMS & TRYOUTS
INFORMATIONAL MEETING
Any athlete who is planning to try out for fall sideline season must attend the pre-season informational meeting with a parent/guardian on Tuesday, March 31st at 6:30pm in the BHS cafeteria.
OPEN GYMS
The BHS Cheerleading program is a CO-ED opportunity open to ALL BHS students! Current BHS freshmen, sophomores, and juniors as well as D220 8th graders are invited to attend open gyms & tryouts. Open gyms will be held on the following dates:
WEDNESDAY, April 1st, 5:00-7:00PM in the BHS Auxiliary Gym
TUESDAY, April 7th, 5:00-7:00PM in the BHS Auxiliary Gym
WEDNESDAY, April 15th, 5:00-7:00PM in the BHS Auxiliary Gym
WEDNESDAY, April 22nd, 5:00-7:00PM in the BHS Auxiliary Gym
WEDNESDAY, April 29th, 5:00-7:00PM in the BHS Auxiliary Gym

TRYOUTS
The BHS Cheerleading program is a CO-ED opportunity open to ALL BHS students! Tryouts for our 2026-2027 fall sideline teams are open to ALL current BHS freshmen, sophomores, and juniors as well as D220 8th graders. Any student who is not currently enrolled in D220, but plans to enroll at BHS for the 2026-2027 school year, should contact coaches and the athletic department for information.
Cheer experience, especially tumbling (minimum of a standing and/or running back-handspring), is HIGHLY encouraged for tryouts (see "What to expect" below). Tryouts will be held on the following dates:
MONDAY, May 18th, 5:00-7:00PM in the BHS Auxiliary Gym
TUESDAY, May 19th, 5:00-7:00PM in the BHS Auxiliary Gym
WEDNESDAY, May 20th, 5:00-9:00PM* in the BHS Auxiliary Gym
*Result meetings will take place from 7:00-9:00PM following the final tryout clinic.
What To Do BEFORE Open Gyms & Tryouts
Athletes will need to complete the following in order to participate. Steps 1-3 must be completed prior to the first open gym. Steps 4-7 must be completed prior to the first day of tryouts:
ALL athletes need to complete the tryout sign-up form
ALL athletes need to have a current sports physical on file at school (valid for 395 days from the date of the examination). Click HERE for more information/instructions.
ALL athletes must have a parent/guardian complete the release form, which is available in English and Spanish. This can be completed either via Google Form or printed copy. *Link will be sent directly to parent/guardian email address!
NEW athletes must have a current teacher or coach complete the BHS Cheer Teacher/Coach Evaluation Form.
RETURNING athletes must participate in a post-season meeting with coaches and return (or replace) all rented apparel/equipment. See email communication for details.
ALL athletes should review the BHS Cheer Information 26-27 packet and 2026-2027 calendar (both documents will be sent via email prior to tryouts upon completion of the sign-up form) with a parent/guardian to ensure that they can meet all expectations as well as commit to all winter season dates if offered a spot on one of our teams.

What To Expect at Tryouts
Athletes will be asked to demonstrate the following skills at tryouts:
Tumbling skills (standing and running)
Jumps
Stunting skills (flyers must demonstrate body positions)
Cheer and/or dance (taught during Day 1 of tryouts)
What To Wear to Open Gyms/Tryouts
Athletes must arrive to open gyms/tryouts wearing athletic attire: shorts, T-shirt/tank (black for tryouts), appropriate undergarments (i.e., briefs, sports bra, etc.), cheer shoes (or gym shoes)
Hair should be pulled back in a high ponytail (when applicable)
ALL jewelry (both covered and uncovered) must be removed
Fingernails must be cut short and should not be visible over the edge of fingertips - no pointed shapes or artificial nails.
