String orchestra instruments are played by plucking, and with a bow. (Bow not pictured) Violin and Viola look basically identical at the elementary level, but violas come in bigger sizes as students grow. Viola shares 3 strings with the violin, but has one lower sounding string and the violin has one higher sounding string. Cello is smaller than a Bass. Bass is not available at all of the elementary schools due to classroom and program sizes.
