Band instruments include members of the woodwind, brass, and percussion families. Instruments in the woodwind and brass families look and sound very different, but all of them are played by blowing air through the instrument. To make a sound on a percussion instrument, musicians will tap, scrape, or shake the instrument. Students who sign up to play percussion are responsible for learning a variety of instruments in the percussion family, but we primarily focus on snare drum and bells.
