As we enter the turn into the 2nd half of the school year, it is necessary to shout out a couple reminders.
A.M. DROP OFF: If you happen to drop a student off at our entrance any time after 8:00am, YOU MUST GET OUT AND BRING THEM INTO THE OFFICE TO SIGN THEM IN. We have recently had a large influx in the number of students being dropped off and then no one being with them to sign them in tardy. The doors are locked after 8:00am and it is possible that there will not be someone to see them needing let inside. We just cannot take a chance of a child being left outside unattended anytime but of course with the temperatures the way they are right now. Please parents be mindful of this. If you no longer see our morning staff out on the curb, you should plan to park on the curb and walk in with your child to be safe. This is for the safety and well being of your child.
ATTENDANCE: Please remember that if your student is out for an appointment, you only have 5 days from the date of the appointment to turn in the note from the appointment to excuse the absence. We are not able per policy to take that note after the 5 days, even if you provide it at a later date. It will be marked unexcused at that time. We have taken several calls lately wondering why there is unexcused time marked so hopefully this will help clarify for many wondering.
The State of Ohio recently passed a new State Law that dictates the age eligibility requirement to enroll in Kindergarten.
The State of Ohio recently passed HB114, requiring that children must be 5 years old by the first day of their district's school year to enroll in kindergarten. This new law goes into effect for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.
The first day of school at Bryan City Schools for the 2026-27 school year is Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
Kindergarten enrollment at BCS opens on March 2, 2026. More information for enrollment processes will be communicated with all families as we approach that date.
These changes are State Law, and were set by the State of Ohio. With that, we appreciate your understanding and partnership as we plan for these changes and remain compliant to state law.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Bryan City Schools at 419-636-6973.
Bryan City Schools recently joined a coalition named CORAS (Coalition of Rural and Appalachian Schools). CORAS is a partnership of over 100 public school districts in Ohio's Rural and Appalachian region, who aim to improve education for rural students through advocacy, resources, and collaboration on funding/policy with state lawmakers.
What CORAS Does:
Advocacy: Represents rural schools' needs in state education policy and funding discussions.
Support: Provides resources and collaboration for member districts.
Partnerships: Works together to strengthen rural education.
Each member district had an Elementary Educator of the Year selected, and Bryan's first recipient in part with their membership is 2nd Grade Teacher Kam (Kamilla) Houk!

From Mrs. Thormeier:
Happy New Year to all of our BE families! The return from break brings us back into the middle of second trimester here at BE. We're picking up where we left off academically and working hard in order to keep making gains. The second round of diagnostic testing has been completed and this "check in" gives teachers a chance to adjust instruction, intervention and enrichment making sure every child's needs are best being met. If you have any questions about your child's progress as we approach the end of the trimester, I encourage you to reach out to their teachers.
With the start of 2026 I'm looking forward to NEW and exciting things with the students here at school and I'm wishing all our families and friends all the best as you settle into the NEW year as well!
