Quality Improvement Project

Each student will be working on a quality improvement project that is selected by their preceptor. Students have 20 hours to dedicate to this project. How the final project is presented is determined by the preceptor. Options are for the student to present to a group, make a PowerPoint for the preceptor to use, make a poster, handout, or trifold.

Objectives of this project are:

• 1. Understand the quality improvement process

  2. Be able to directly apply principles of the quality improvement process to patient care

  3. Incorporate findings of the project into the six QSEN principles

     1. Patient-Centered Care

     2. Teamwork and Collaboration

     3. Evidence-Based Practice (EBP)

     4. Quality Improvement

     5. Safety

     6. Informatics

In this project, the students are to:

• • Collect data and analyze findings

  • Research the EBP

  • Give recommendations based on the EBP

Quality Improvement Project Ideas are:

• • Hourly patient rounds

  • Bedside shift report

  • Pain management

  • Daily Cares

  • CAUTI

  • CLABSI

  • Falls

  • Any new intiative that may need follow-up

  • Surgical Site Infections

  • Handwashing

  • Medication errors

  • Staff engagement
