ACTION DESCRIPTION
As part of Carver’s EcoSchools Green Flag action work, the Carver Beak Seekers youth birding team empowers students to lead authentic biodiversity monitoring on our campus. Under the leadership of fifth grader Grayson, our student ornithologist, team members receive peer-led training in bird identification by sight and sound using binoculars, Merlin Bird ID, and field guides. Students are building an official Carver bird inventory while strengthening observation skills, data literacy, and stewardship of local habitats within the Ogeechee River Basin. With aspirations to compete in the Georgia Youth Birding Competition, the Beak Seekers model student-driven conservation in action and expand Carver’s culture of curiosity, wonder, and scientific fieldwork.
For 25-26, we formed the Carver Beak Seekers, a Georgia Youth Birding Team.
On February 13–16, 2026 two fourth grade classes participated in the Great Backyard Bird Count.
We documented 7 species of birds for the count.
