"Taking of Jerusalem by the Crusaders" by Emile Signol is a painting of when the Crusaders took back Jerusalem from the Muslims in 1202 CE. This was an important event in medieval Europe, and it was a major event in the rise of Christianity and its impact on civilizations.
These periods include the Early Middle Ages, the High Middle Ages, and the Late Middle Ages. Some events that occurred during the Early Middle Ages included the Fall of Rome, the Rise of Islam, and the New Holy Roman Empire. In the High Middle Ages, scholasticism grew, Europe expanded their education programs, and the Pope (leader of the Catholic Church) became more powerful than the emperor, therefore taking charge. Lastly, during the Late Middle Ages, the plague began, European kingdoms started fighting each other in wars, and the expansion of culture started to lead up to the Renaissance (Cataliotti and Sullivan).
Medieval Europe includes certain places and civilizations within the continent of Europe during the Middle Ages. It is more commonly known as a time period, rather than a specific place. It can be referred to as the Middle Ages or medieval Europe. The time period lasted from 476 CE (Western Roman Empire falls) to the 14th century (Renaissance begins) ("Middle Ages"). Europe is located West of Asia and North of Africa. It is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea, Baltic Sea, and the Alps mountains. There are many rivers, the longest being the Danube and Rhine. These rivers helped with farming and trade. Europe also had forests that provided supplies for building (Donn). The Middle Ages is generally split into three periods.
