Mesopotamia is a region located in southwestern Asia. The Euphrates and Tigris rivers border this Mesopotamia. Two very important cities were Babylon and Sumer, and several important inventions originated here. The city of Babylon was the capital of southern Mesopotamia which lasted from the early 2nd millennium to the early 1st millennium. Mesopotamian geography consists of marshes, lagoons, and mud flats.

Figure 4- The Wheel
One of the most important inventions of Mesopotamian time was the wheel. The wheel was used at first to spin pottery wheels and quicken transportation, but then evolved into something much more. It is an impactful creation that supports much of the technology today. In this room, you can delve deeper into the history of the wheel.

Figure 5- Ceramics
Though not always seen as "the most important" or "the most impactful", ceramics made a huge impact on the Mesopotamian culture and civilization. Ceramics created a way to put/write down records and be used in school, as well as for religious uses and practices.

Figure 6- Irrigation
Irrigation was one of the most impactful inventions of the Mesopotamian time. Irrigation began around 6000 BC and was a focus point for the Seminarians. They built canals to bring the water from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers into the fields. The development of irrigation helped bring people away from being hunters and gateares and focusing on agriculture.

Figure 7- Ziggurats
Ziggurats were a very important invention to Mesopotamia in the time around 4200 to 2500 years ago. The ziggurat is a tower-like stepped pyramid-shaped temple with several floors above which the main temple was located. Out of the tons of ziggurats throughout the world, the ziggurat in Susa named Chogha Zanbil is the most popular one.
