Introduction
Ancient China was located primarily around two major bodies of water; the Yellow (or Huang He) River to the North and the Yangtze River to the South. The Yellow River provided the early Chinese settlers with very arable and fertile soil for farming (The Geography of Ancient China). The Yangtze River also gave this rich land, but it was more ideal for harvesting rice and catching fish for food supply (The Geography of Ancient China). This allowed the earliest form of Chinese civilization to develop from these river valleys and eventually expand as far as the Himalayas in the West and along the Pacific Ocean coastline in the East. The land was mountainous with large pastures. "CHINA Timeline of Historical Periods" states that China's first dynasty, the "Xia Dynasty", started in 2100 BCE. China continued to use the dynasty system until 1912, with the end of the final dynasty "Qing Dynasty." Within each of these time periods, the leaders of civilization were emperors. We will talk about six inventions from the Ancient Chinese, the Blast Furnace, Gunpowder, Silk, Paper, the Suspension Bridge, and the Compass.
The blast furnace allowed stronger steel to be produced and at a faster rate.
