Europe is a continent in the northern hemisphere, bordered by the Atlantic ocean, Mediterranean sea, and the continent of Asia. The medieval time period took place between the fall of Rome in 476 A.D., and around the 1500s. There were many inventions during that time period that shaped the culture and changed the way people lived. In this museum you will learn about each invention that had its own individual impact on Medieval Europe. Eyeglasses were a solution to eyesight problems and allowed people to see and read in old age. Chainmail was used to protect soldiers in battle and deflecting blows from arrows and swords. Waterwheels and windmills harnessed natural resources like running water and wind to produce power. The mechanical clock was moved by using weights which helped keep up with time and was more accurate than sundials. The longbow and trebuchet are examples of weapons used at this time. The longbow could get farther range than the basic bow and the trebuchet could be used to launch things into and over castle walls. Castles were a sign of strength to other civilizations and they were a place where highly valued people lived and they were made of a variety of things like wood and stones.
Explore each invention in depth as well as extra features like a map, timeline, and extra links you might find interesting.
