OCLC Core Values
Trust - Trust develops over time when OCLC staff and students are consistently true to their words, which are aligned with their behavior, purpose, and values. Building trust is worth the effort because once trust is lost, it can be very difficult to recover. Building trust is also important because it supports everyone at OCLC to express concerns safely, show appreciation, seek out or give appropriate feedback, and extend empathy to others.
Respect - Everyone at OCLC deserves dignity and consideration. Our words and actions should be true and demonstrate kindness, even in difficult situations. Respect for ourselves and others improves confidence, supports emotional safety, and recognizes the unique strengths of each person.
Personal Responsibility - Students must be responsible for themselves and their actions. They must be permitted to make personal choices, as well as to graciously accept responsibility for those choices.
Honest Communication - Honest communication leads more quickly to mutual understanding and an appreciation for differing points of view or needs. Effective communication helps to develop self-advocacy, listening skills, perspective-taking, collaboration, and meaningful resolutions.
Effort - Everyone comes to OCLC with different abilities, skills, supports, and experiences. Students are recognized for their willingness to improve in areas of need or to engage in learning activities. Showing up physically and mentally every day and trying to do your best are acknowledged and integral to OCLC culture.
