ANIMAL SCIENCE (Science Equivalent) (1 Semester) Every Fall Semester
Students will explore the scientific principles behind animal care, encompassing topics like anatomy, physiology, nutrition, reproduction, and health. Students explore both large and small animal species, examining the elements that influence their well-being and the development of sustainable animal production systems. The course often includes hands-on activities, labs, and field trips, providing practical experience in animal care and management. This course can count for .5 credits of science.
CONSERVATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES (1 Semester) 2026-2027
Students in this class will explore the uses and management of Wisconsin’s vast array of natural resources. Identifying plant and animal species, exploring ecosystems, as well as resource conservation and management will be just a few of the topics covered. School forest resources will be utilized in this course, so students should be prepared for occasional class period long outdoor field trips. Field trips, hands-on labs, and speakers will also be featured in this course.
HORTICULTURE (1 Semester) Every Spring Semester
Horticulture will feature hands-on activities and projects in labs. Areas of focus will include plant physiology and reproduction, plant I.D., greenhouse management and plant care, pest management, managing a plant sale, landscape design, floral arrangements, grafting, pruning and plant care. Get out of your seats and onto your feet to explore the many different careers that plants can take you.
PRODUCTION AGRICULTURE (1 Semester) (2025-2026)
Students enrolled in production agriculture will learn the fundamentals of the production of standard species of livestock, as well as how to produce the various forages and grains used to feed them. Techniques for day-to-day operation, as well as management will be the focus of this course. Students may also explore the social, environmental, and economic impacts of agriculture.
SMALL ANIMAL MANAGEMENT/ VETERINARY MEDICINE (1 Semester) (2025-2026)
Any student with an interest in companion animals should consider this course. Students will start with an introductory understanding of anatomy and physiology, breeding, nutrition, identification and management of dogs, cats, rabbits, reptiles, amphibians, and fish will be covered. Animal behavior, housing, training, and grooming will be discussed and demonstrated. Students will learn about veterinary terminology and approved veterinary practices will be studied along with various diseases and disorders of companion animals. Students may also cover office management, and customer service along with professional grooming.
WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT (1 Semester) 2026-2027
If you enjoy the outdoors and animals of the outdoors this class is for you! Wildlife is a very important part of our natural world. Students will explore different population management techniques, the Wisconsin deer herd and turkey populations, laws and protection of wild animals, identification, and how they impact the economy of Wisconsin. Units will also include hunting and fishing basics. Additionally, students will also learn about endangered species globally.
