When planning for projects consider and include the following...
Choose the project. Consider the content your students are learning. Animal projects and biographies are a good starting place for 1st and 2nd grade, but they need to go beyond basic understanding. Are they learning to solve a problem or just answer questions? Think "what will my students DO with this information?" Do they have an idea that can improve a situation or solve a problem?
What are the goals of the project? What are the learning expectations? What TEKS are addressed?
Create a rubric and share expectations with students.
Students should create driving questions (what do they want to know or learn?).
Students should research to discover the answers to THEIR questions (you can provide questions as well, but it is important that they write and answer their own questions).
Writing - what kind of writing will be required? Descriptive? Informative? Persuasive? Argumentative? Compare/Contrast?
Product Choice - How will students SHOW what they learned? Be sure to offer more than one choice (scroll to find button for product choices).

Click on the button "G/T Resources by Grade" to view resources by grade for K-3 teachers.
Please send certificates to angela.fabbiani@brownwoodisd.org when you have them. Thank you!
This is for K-3 cluster teachers (you should have received a copy in your box).
Twice a year, please document ways that you differentiate in the classroom using the spreadsheet below. Ideas and lists will be shared to help you if needed.
Organized by campus. Names are added. If your name is missing, just add it.
How do you differentiate? Here are some lists and choices.
You are already accelerating in iReady.
You could pick 1-2 of the choices for them to choose from. These are great as extensions to accompany what you are already reading.
You can extend units in Amplify, Science, Math, and Social Studies.
AMPLIFY Units-At the end of each unit, your Teacher Edition has Culminating Activities. These can be used "as is," or you can modify to encourage more independence or higher levels of understanding.
THINK UP-At the end of each unit, your Teacher Edition has Remediation and Extension ideas.
The following are ideas if you need additional ideas. When planning independent projects, create a rubric so that students know what is expected. There will also be a section for sample rubrics. TPSP is great as well since they are cross-curricular. Check your grade level for project ideas from TPSP.
Ideas will be added throughout the year.
These are just possible topics based on TEKS for each grade level.
There are so many ideas for independent projects!
