MOVING IN
AND OUT
campus temporary housing relocation and keys
Important to Know:
CAMPUS TEMPORARY HOUSING PROVISIONS
If you need to isolate or quarantine due to an infectious situation, you will be directed by Health Services or EMS to take the necessary steps. Some situations will require isolation in your own room on or off campus; if you require temporary housing for clinical reasons, this will be arranged for you.
If you need to move to a temporary location for clinically determined reasons, you will be placed in a room with these amenities:
A bed
A bathroom with shower
Bed linens/pillow
Towel
Toilet paper
Hotel size bar soap
Hand sanitizer and cleaning wipes
Light snacks/shelf stable food items
A refrigerator and microwave
Water
Meals at no extra cost to you
WHAT TO PACK IF YOU ARE MOVING
Plan to pack only what you really need for your stay. You will be permitted to do laundry during your temporary situation. If you have any questions about what to bring, you can ask EMS when they contact you to book your move in time.
Suggested packing list for your temporary housing location:
Brown ID card
KN95 masks
Comfortable weather appropriate clothing
Outdoor clothing for walking/running/studying outdoors
Sweatshirt/sweater
Underwear
Pajamas/sleepwear
Comfortable indoor shoes or slippers
Shower shoes if you have them
Personal care kit for bathing and grooming (soap, shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc)
Extra Towel
Medications
Glasses/contact lenses
Personal devices/cell phone and chargers
Academic supplies/course materials to include notebooks/pens/pencils
Assistive devices, hearing aids, spare batteries, emergency instructions/kits as needed
Food/supplies for an emotional support animal, if relevant
These housing units are provided as a public and personal health accommodation, as such they are designated as substance free. All students are expected to honor this.
Steps to take in your current location before you move:
Gather your dirty laundry together (clothing, towels, any laundry hamper items).
Place your dirty items on top of your bed, with your bed linens and any stuffed animals or special pillows.
These items will be professionally laundered and returned to you.
Because your room will be cleaned for you, please remove all small personal items from the floor and either pack them for relocation or place them on a shelf or desk, in a closet, or in a storage container. The floor needs to be clear so the cleaners can do their job.
Organize the items you plan to bring with you so that moving is easy. Suitcases, duffel bags, back packs, and other carryalls will make moving more efficient. If you do not have a suitcase or duffel bag, let EMS know and we can provide you with a disposable bag or a plastic bin for moving.
You will be able to do laundry in your temporary location, so if you have a few favorite items that you would like to bring with you instead of having them professionally laundered, you may bring them with you in a bag. Laundering guidelines are provided on the Laundry page.
CHECKING IN
Once you have been contacted and registered to move into your temporary housing assignment, this is what you should do:
Organize your personal belongings so that you have all or most of the suggested packing list items.
Be ready for your assigned time frame.
Brown EMS will facilitate your move in and provide you with your key and room information.
If you require a ride to temporary housing, let EMS know. Otherwise, you can choose to walk to the designated location on campus.
Your housing assignment will be made according to availability of rooms.

CHECKING OUT and DEPOSITING KEYS :
Self Check Out Once Your Cleared to Go
Just like a hotel; do not select the check out button until you are leaving your room and depositing your key in the designated box.
When you check out in the student portal, select self check out when you are ready to leave.
You will not see this option until Health Services has initiated your check out.
When you complete your check out, you are indicating that you have placed your keys in the designated drop box, when relevant.
Key Drop Boxes for Self Check Out
Minden Hall: The key drop box is in the Annex foyer, to the left of the main Annex entryway if you are facing out.
See the Res Life information about fees for unreturned keys. Please return your key!
