Theme 2: Mestizaje

The second theme of or whatever I call myself explores notions of mestizaje. Although the term mestizo arose in the colonial era as a result of the racial miscegenation of peoples of European and Indigenous descent, the term was given prominence as a characterization of the new modern Mexico. The three murals in this category engage with ideas of mestizaje, either embracing or rejecting the ideology.
