The key to success in Math 1000 is taking advantage of all of the resources available to you. Here's an overiew of what's at your disposal:
In addition to myself, Math 1000 is supported by UTAs (TBD). All of us are looking forward to working with you to reach your math goals for this semester!
Come by for office hours! These blocks of time are great for you to get some honest face time in with myself and the UTA(s). These blocks can be used to get help with homework, reinforce concepts from lectures, or simply for us to get to know each other better.
The full slate of office hours will be available on Canvas and will include both in-person and online options.
We hope to see you there!
One of your greatest resources is your cohort of fellow Math 1000 students. We hope you feel comfortable asking your peers for help throughout the course, and we encourage you to pay it forward and help out your classmates yourself when an opportunity presents itself.
The textbook is a great source for the material that we cover. You can count on me to cover the material we need for the course, but you may find that following up the lectures with a review of the textbook section might reinforce your learning. You'll also find a number of additional topics and examples in the textbook that could clarify a concept from the lectures for you.
In addition to the Math 1000 resources described above, Brown University offers a wide range of resources at your disposal. Here are a few of them:
Students Support Services Deans can be a helpful resource to discuss personal, family or health-related concerns, as well as a potential academic and personal plan. They are available for same-day consult and/or scheduled appointment.
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides a range of mental health services to the Brown community, including individual psychological treatment, mental health support, medication management, trainings and consultation for faculty and stuff, crisis stabilization, after hours assessment and urgent care, outreach programming, and groups.
The Sheridan Center's Academic Tutoring Program is a free group-tutoring program to support you in your studies. This is a great way to build good habits in early in the term and find a study group!
