About Litmus

Ever wonder what an entire group of people are thinking?

Speculate about how homogenous that group is in their thoughts and opinions?

Wish you could just take a quick Litmus test of where you go to school, or work, or teach?

The Litmus Podcast is a new idea at the Multimedia Labs centered around creating a digestible and varied accounting of who and where we are as a larger community at Brown University. Crowdsourced by our students, staff, and faculty, Litmus will ask a new question each month of its audience. Even some of our questions will be crowd-sourced. Together, we will measure where we are on the metaphorical scale by listening to the stories, thoughts, and perspectives submitted by our fellow Brunonians. Where do you fall on the Litmus? Participate and find out.

The Multimedia Labs at Brown have been supporting the audio production work of our community for well over 20 years. Over the last 5 years, we have seen a significant shift towards podcasting and audio storytelling, which has lead us to develop resources like the MML Podcasting Resource Guide, provide support for faculty incorporating audio storytelling into their courses, and help independent producers learn recording and editing techniques to get their own podcasts off the ground. It occurred to us, however, that we have missed an opportunity to educate, lead, and inspire by example, which is where Litmus comes in. Producing, editing, and publishing Litmus will only serve to further our understanding of the medium and its practitioners through doing rather than telling. Through Litmus, we aim to better support the future audio producers and makers at Brown. To learn more about the MMLs, visit brown.edu/go/mml
