Regional Brown club volunteers help to make up the backbone of Brown’s alumni leadership corps. From helping to build engagement and community in their local areas, to driving energy and excitement for Brown, these leaders are an integral part of the University’s alumni leadership structure.
Providing meaningful opportunities for these volunteers themselves to be engaged and appropriately recognized is a priority for the University and Alumni Association. In addition to the Alumni Association awards presented at the annual Alumni Recognition Ceremony, the three awards outlined below can be utilized by individual clubs to recognize outstanding volunteers and leaders for their contributions.
Given to an alumni leader in their first or second year on the club board who has demonstrated notable initiative in support of the club in its current work to bring community and programming to alumni in the [insert region] area. Through volunteering time at more than 25% of the club’s events (at registration table, set-up, break down, etc.), promoting and encouraging alumni friends to attend events, and actively sharing thoughts and ideas at board meetings.
Given to a club board member who has modeled collaboration and allyship by bridging the work of the [insert club name] with different alumni affinity/class/club groups and local organizations to create inclusive and diverse programming for alumni in the [insert region] area.
Given to a longstanding club board member who has exhibited exceptional leadership and commitment to the mission of the [insert club name] by making lasting contributions to the alumni community in the [insert region] area. This award may also be given to a former board member who has stayed consistently involved and whose contributions while on the board, or off, have had a significant impact on the alumni community and/or club board.
Should clubs choose to present these awards, they should be presented in the Spring and recipient information should be shared with the club’s staff liaison. An award certificate will be shared with the club along with a Brown University diploma folio to hold the award. Alternative or additional gifts and awards, including cash or tokens of appreciation purchased from club funding, are not allowed. Club funding – raised from alumni through dues or events, as well as funding from the Brown Alumni Association – are to be used for alumni programming, meetings and administrative/event needs. For additional information, please contact your club staff liaison.
