Funkademic is a Rhode Island band playing funk, soul, pop, and R&B on period-correct instruments. Founded at Brown University in 2019, Funkademic has quickly become one of the most beloved bands on the local festival and club circuit. Funkademic's repertoire consists of upbeat, groove-based, high-energy music from the 1960s to today. We are: Jules Mann, Latrina Crim, Joshua Kennedy (Investment Office), Chris Lapidas, Scarleth Peoples, Elias Muhanna (Depts. of Comparative Literature and History) and Jason Protass (Dept. of Religious Studies). Funkademic brings passion, energy, and laughter to every show.
Professor Roots is a Rhode Island reggae band featuring an eclectic mix of originals and authentic Jamaican songs by our favorite reggae, rocksteady, and ska artists! We have just recently begun to write our own songs as well. We are: Geoff Greene (Office of Information Technology), Peter Breen, Krys Jackson, Rob Liguori, Fred Jackson (retired: Director/Lecturer - Plant Environmental Center.
