No. We understand that members have a significant commitment to academic work. However, consistent training is an important part of growth in Aikido, and as a result, we recommend that you make an effort to attend a minimum of one practice per week.
We welcome all styles of Aikido. If you have had prior training in Aikido, please speak with Chris-sensei about your background.
Rank in Aikido is not used as a means of comparison between practitioners, but rather as a means to demonstrate to one another our progress in the art. As with many Japanese martial arts, Aikido utilizes the kyu (級) and dan (段) ranks. You can learn more about the system here.
The club follows the curriculum set forth by Aviv-sensei, chief instructor of Aikido in Fredericksburg. Once you have decided to join the club, you will receive a student manual that contains the list of requirements for each rank.
