In the FIRST® AGE™ season presented by Qualcomm, teams work together throughout the season to prepare for competition by designing, building, and programming an autonomous LEGO® robot, developing an Innovation Project, and documenting their journey in an Engineering Notebook.
The UNEARTHED™ robot game challenges teams to explore an archaeological dig site, where robots autonomously complete missions by excavating artifacts, navigating difficult terrain, and interacting with mission models to uncover stories of past civilizations.
During each 2.5-minute match, robots launch from home and follow pre-programmed instructions to complete missions placed around the field, earning points based on visible end-of-match results. Teams choose their own mission strategies, balancing risk, precision, and scoring potential.
At events, teams are evaluated equally across Robot Performance, Robot Design, the Innovation Project, and Core Values. Teams compete in three official matches, with only their highest score counting toward advancement, while demonstrating Gracious Professionalism® and Coopertition® throughout the competition.
