What is Title 1?
Title 1 is a federally funded program. Schools across America receive money from the government to aid children who have been identified as needing help in achieving the state standards. Presently, the funding that our school receives goes to Brookville Elementary School.
How are students selected to participate?
Kindergarten students are selected based on their kindergarten screening scores and a comprehensive literacy and/or math assessment. First, second and third grade students are selected based on a comprehensive literacy and or math assessment, current reading level, and overall literacy performance in the classroom.
Once a student has been identified as being eligible to receive Title 1 service, the parents/guardians are notified of the
availability of this service for their child.
What happens in Title 1?
Students meet in small groups with a literacy and/or math tutor daily.
First grade students can receive one-on-one tutoring through our Reading Recovery program. Students identified for this program meet daily for 30 minutes with a Reading Recovery teacher. This individualized instruction can last for up to 20 weeks.
