The safety of everyone in our community is our first priority. Please review these new safety protocols.
The best thing students can do to prepare for school is to get vaccinated. The available Covid-19 vaccines are safe, effective, free, and widely available to New Yorkers 12 and up.
Students and staff should complete a daily self screen at home using the DOE Health Screening application.
Students must know their @nycsstudents.net username and password to access the Screening application.
Everyone should remain 3-feet apart whenever possible, as per the latest CDC and NYCDOE guidance.
In the classroom, students will sit either at an individual pupil desk or at a shared table with 1-2 other students. Students at a shared table will have a transparent plastic divider between them.
Students will not be able to maintain 3-feet distance in the hallways. The CDC defines a "close contact" at school as being within 3-feet of someone for a 10-minute period over 24 hours. As a result, passing in the hallway is not considered a close contact. Students should reduce their risk by passing quickly and continuing to use their mask.
Everyone should wash their hands with warm, soapy water or apply hand sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol regularly throughout the day.
When washing or sanitizing, rub your hands vigorously for at least 20-seconds - the time it takes to say the alphabet slowly.
All windows and doors are kept open at all times to increase ventilation. Per DOE rules, windows open only 6-inches at the bottom and can open fully at the top.
Brooklyn Latin does not have an HVAC system.
As of Spring 2021, all classrooms now have air conditons and air purifiers.
Everyone must wear a secure face covering over their mouth and nostrils at all times - indoors and outdoors, regardless of vaccination status.

All students and staff are subject to random screening with a no-touch thermometer and random COVID-19 diagnostic testing with a nasal swab. This includes vaccinated people.
Our custodial staff is operating with enhanced cleaning procedures, including regularly restocking sanitizer and soap stations and sanitizing high-touch surfaces like door knobs and railings.
