The facility at the Family Center is a purpose-built space built in 2011. It's a warm, bright, and child-centered space specifically designed for this age group. From child-sized bathrooms in each classroom to large classroom spaces, the space helps to facilitate independence and play. Furniture is always child-sized, and the room is set up in a way that encourages a calm environment that can be filled with children's imaginations.
A large inside playspace that is shared among the classrooms provides a place for climbing, dancing, and active movement. The space is designed to be flexible and facilitate a variety of activities and includes an adjoining child-sized bathroom.
Materials are displayed in child-centered ways that help children explore and feel secure. Combined with routines, the space inspires children to dig in their hands, build a bit higher, and work together throughout their day. Each room is set up into specific areas that promote different types of play and learning, including areas to paint, build, pretend, read, and more. Bulletin boards are designed to mimic what you might see in a gallery, with the focus on the children's work. In this way, children build a sense of pride in what they have created.
