"I knew IMP was the right choice as soon as I saw my daughter's confidence increase. As a math specialist/coach (and parent), I believe a child's confidence in herself/himself is one of the most significant factors in determining a child's success. In IMP, my child is working together with her classmates to make meaning of the material, and she feels extremely supported by the teacher. The focus on talking about math with others helped her to better understand the material. IMP was definitely the right choice!
She is making sense of the material and finding support from her classmates and teacher! What a difference IMP has made in both of our lives."
"IMP has allowed my child the opportunity to continue to advance her math skills instead of saying/thinking, “I'm bad in math.”
"My son was struggling with honors math first quarter sophomore year and was going to drop down to standard until his friend told him about IMP. He talked to his math teacher who agreed he should try it.
"The IMP approach truly resonated with my daughter in terms of breaking down concepts and making them understandable to her.
My daughter has benefitted from the way that the math concepts are presented and practiced on large problems, but mostly she has benefitted from the continuity of the students working together for three years and the supportive and dedicated teachers!"
"Both my child and I knew she needed to work in a collaborative group setting to succeed at math since it was not her academic strength. She needed a 'non-traditional' way to attack high school-level math using problem-solving and big picture ideas. At an in-person BTS night for 9th-grade parents, we learned about IMP and we were sold!
(My daughter's teacher) has made math palatable and engaging while building an incredible environment of trust, and community. "
"It’s given her much more confidence in her math abilities. It’s also been helpful being with the same group of students and teacher each year. "
"My child is much more engaged in the class -- now he really enjoys math. There's been a noticeable confidence boost as well. Really good fit for the way his brain works."
"IMP is much more suited to her learning style and has helped her better understand the material. As a result, it’s given her more confidence."
IMP has been a complete game changer for our child in her confidence as a whole, not just in math. She has always been in Honors math, including in IMP. The curriculum concepts are the same as traditional math classes, just taught in a different format and possibly different timing during the school year. What sets IMP teaching and learning apart is that students are encouraged to collaborate and help each other rise. A student may master a concept faster than her peers and, therefore, work with classmates to help them get there. That same student may be on the receiving end of peer-help on another concept. The end result is a class of confident students who can not only take tests, but truly understand and explain the mathematical concepts being taught.
With our child, we have witnessed these skills carry over to other classes and experiences at BHS. She has transformed into a leader in class discussions. She is well-prepared to make class presentations. Additionally, she is confident enough to ask for help when struggling with a concept or assignment, whether that help comes from a teacher or a fellow student.

Prior to IMP our daughter really didn’t like math or feel like she could understand it. IMP has been a great success for her. She understands math beyond anything we do now; and she really works at new topics as they are introduced. Before IMP math was always a “bare minimum to get by” kind of endeavor; but the IMP learning style encouraged her to be more creative in her learning and working with other students helped her to push herself as they all learned together.
