In 2011 BHS was proud to premiere the new Writing Center in room 208, near the cafeteria.

We would like to acknowledge the Brookfield Education Foundation for providing the initial grant for the Writing Center. We thank them for their tremendous help in establishing this valuable, student-centered literacy support.

Many thanks from the founding teachers: Mr. Mike Smith, Mrs. Trish O'Connor, Mrs. Elizabeth Spencer, Mrs. Carol Zinser, and Mrs. Erin Stolfi.

Run by a dedicated group of student tutors, the Writing Center offers a great opportunity for all students of BHS to improve their writing. Whether it’s DBQs, college essays, lab reports, or English papers, there are students here to help. As tutors, these students encourage and work with anyone who comes in, improving not only the piece, but the student's writing skills as a whole. Our goal for a tutoring session is not to produce just a better paper, but a better writer.

Our Writing Center tutors are trained using the UConn model, and we hold our training workshops each fall and spring. We are always looking for more students to take advantage of this great resource. As the Writing Center grows and word of its success spreads, we are confident that it will become a key part of a culture of excellence in writing at BHS.

During the summer of 2020, the Writing Center relocated to Room 307. If you are ever in the building, please stop by!

See Mrs. Zinser for more information.
