In January 2026, the United Kingdom Standing Conference (UKSC) for SCPHN Educators changed its name to UKSE to clarify the Network's membership.
The United Kingdom Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) Educators (UKSE) is a body of Academics representing the interests of those most closely involved in the education and training of SCPHN practitioners. SCPHN practitioners are qualified Nurses or midwives who undertake a specialist master's level (7) qualification to specialise in the care of parents, families, babies, infants, children, young people and people in employment. There are three levels of qualifications we currently represent:
Health Visiting: Specialist qualification caring for and leading the care of families from pregnancy to the age of 5
School Nursing: Specialist qualification caring for and leading the care of children in school-aged years (5-19)
Occupational Health Nursing: Specialist qualification caring for and leading the care of adults in employment
The UKSE consults with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (the professional regulator), appropriate Government departments, and other professional bodies throughout the United Kingdom.
Meetings of the UKSE are held 4 times a year. The Network represents all SCPHN education and training centres in the United Kingdom. Although historically focused explicitly on health visiting, the UKSE provides a collaborative forum for all disciplines within the Third part of the NMC register, while each retains its own unique identity.
The Network serves as a unique forum for discussion and the exchange of information and ideas, bringing together activities and research from the four countries. There is an opportunity for representatives to share their knowledge and experience of both theoretical and practical matters. On occasion, experts are invited to meetings to introduce current research and issues that form the basis for discussions.
