The Student Experience Team is made up of the Principal Lecturers for Education and Student Experience (PLESE) who work closely with the Associate Dean for Education and Student Experience (ADESE).
The Student Experience Team works across the four Schools that make up the Faculty of Technology, Design and Environment.
We are dedicated to helping enhance the experience of our students both directly, through a range of projects and initiatives, and through working with academic and other staff in their endeavours to improve our students' time at Brookes and afterwards.
Lucy Turner is Interim Associate Dean for Education and Student Experience within the Faculty of Technology Design and Environment.
The breadth of subject across the faculty means that having oversight of subjects from Motorsport to Fine Art to Real Estate can be really fascinating as they are all so vastly different. The way the subject teams deliver and teach varies and you get to see some really exciting and innovative ideas within teaching and learning. The student experience is at the forefront of the role ensuring that the students' expectations are met through dynamic and motivating learning environments which are monitored by strong and purposeful assurance processes.
As well as this, Lucy is also a lecturer within the School of Arts with a specialism in Fashion Textiles. Working within the foundation art and design programme as well as supporting new course development within the School of Arts, Lucy is able to inject her enthusiasm for her subject into all aspects of her role and be creative with the way that her colleagues approach new developments in the HE sector.
Lindsey is a Senior Lecturer in Construction Law, teaching law to both Construction and Real Estate students. After qualifying as a solicitor she worked for major firms in both London and Oxford, specialising in property law. She left practice to become a founder member of the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice which provided courses for the professional qualification required by solicitors.
Lindsey has qualified as a SFHEA which reflects her interest in innovative teaching and specialism in teaching law to lawyers and non-lawyers, as well as teaching legal skills such as advocacy and dispute resolution. She has a particular interest in assessment methodology and ways in which new assessment methods can be used to address differing skills of students.
As a Principal Lecturer Lindsey in involved with a range of projects within the Faculty to improve students’ experience and learning.
Laura has a background in architecture, planning and urban design and has been a member of staff at Brookes since 2002 where she divides her time between coordinating three undergraduate courses in urban design and planning, teaching in urban design and working as a Principal Lecturer to positively impact the student experience.
Laura is an expert in the relationship between information technology and urban design issues, with a particular interest in developing strategies for integrating multimeida into the process of urban design. Her main research interests focus on environmental perception, behaviour and design, cultural heritage and urban conservation and design coding. She is particularly interested in researching with children and young people to achieve more inclusive urban environments.
Samia is a National Teaching Fellow, awarded to individuals who have made an outstanding impact on student outcomes and the teaching profession.
Samia is committed to exploring learning and teaching strategies suited to her discipline of Computer Science. Her championing of Computer Science pedagogy has helped to transform students’ experiences at Oxford Brookes University, especially women in STEM subjects, through her proactivism and advocacy for underrepresented groups.
Samia is also an Enterprise Education Fellow, where she leads enterprise and entrepreneurship education practices within the curriculum with appropriate adaptations for different disciplines, which provides an integrated approach to entrepreneurship, and enterprise within the curriculum and as part of our students’ broader development.
Clare is a Principal Lecturer Student Experience for the Faculty of Technology, Design and Environment. Claire is involved in work across the University that is designed to enhance the time that our students spend with us. She has managed projects on sustainable mentoring and getting students’ work published as part of the University Programme for Enhancing the Student Experience.
Clare's research interests lie in healthcare technology and formal methods for computer science. She have been involved in the research, development and evaluation of various tools to support the self-management of chronic health conditions. The roles of human factors and artificial intelligence in the development diabetes technology are particular areas of focus. She also interested in the use of mathematics to reason about the semantics and general algebraic properties of programming and specification languages.
