This is Oxford (Brookes Popular Music Research Unit) Calling!
You are cordially invited to a
POSTGRADUATE STUDENT EUROVISION EVENT
on Thursday 27th April from 3:30pm to 5:30pm in B10, Richard Hamilton Building, Headington Hill campus
This event is in honour of the UK hosting the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest (on behalf of last year's winner, Ukraine).
We will start with ten-minute student "position papers" about various aspects of the Eurovision Song Contest to kickstart discussion amongst attendees.
* Tianshu Wong (University of Leeds) on online voting and migrant identity
* Abigail May Parker (University of Nottingham) on ABBA
* Kirsten Etheridge (Oxford Brookes University) on hosting ESC on behalf of another country
We are delighted to welcome back Dr Dai Griffiths, who will then give a short keynote entitled "Key change towards the end: select adventures of the elevating modulation in Eurovision Song Contest, 1956-2006".
Attendees MUST nominate their favourite Eurovision song when registering. Nominations will be counted and compiled, and after the more formal presentations, we will watch and discuss your top 5 songs. There will then be both Audience and Jury voting!
Register using the link above. Tea, coffee and a small snack will be provided – please let us know if you have any dietary requirements when booking.
