Welcome to our project website. The project started in March 2023 and will run until Februrary 2024.
Drinking alcohol increases the risk of breast cancer in women. The risks of drinking build up over time. This means reducing drinking in mid-life women (those aged 40-65) could help reduce future cases of breast cancer. Mid-life women may also benefit from a range of other positive impacts from reducing alcohol consumption. In this project we will co-produce a novel intervention with mid-life women aged 40-65 to improve knowledge about alcohol and breast cancer risk and support women to reduce their alcohol consumption.
We have collected survey data from 317 people, and held focus groups with 33 women. Our next steps are to a) hold focus groups with a range of stakeholders, such as alcohol and breast cancer charities and b) to hold our final workshop to develop a consensus on how to raise awareness, and how to help those who would like to reduce their alcohol consumption.
