Owing to the huge number of students in Oxford, the Council tends to place planning permission restrictions forbidding residents to have cars on all student hall developments. As Paramedic Science students generally need to be able to drive to attend placements, we instead set aside housing managed by Brookes Lettings. This site will hopefully give you most of the information you need to help you find housing for your first year at Oxford Brookes.
Brookes Lettings is a department of the University's Residential Services. We manage smaller properties in accessible locations to Oxford Brookes.
Most of our properties are leased from private owners, then sub-let to our students. This means the University would be your landlord and will oversee your tenancy and safety at the property. Maintenance will either be done by the University directly, or by the owner of the property.
The University will be available to offer help and support, but it will be a more independent living environment than you would experience living in halls.
Our Tenant's Info site holds a lot of information to help with living in our properties, such as how to look after your property or help with arranging a cleaning rota with your housemates.
If you have a medical condition that you feel may affect your accommodation needs or how you live in our accommodation, please contact us directly to discuss it at lettings@brookes.ac.uk. We will make an assessment of your needs based on the information you provide and will ask your permission if we wish to share your information outside of our department to assist with this. If you are unsure, please get in touch with us or the Inclusive Support Service.

Can I stay at my house after the first year?
In most cases, yes. Our houses are leased from a head landlord, so it is not always the case that our lease will continue year to year- but otherwise we will always priorities existing tenants that wish to remain where they are.
What about utility bills?
Unless stated otherwise, bills (gas, electric, water, wifi) will need to paid independently by tenants in addition to rent. Students are Council Tax exempt. It can be tricky to set up bills- especially with people you don't know well- so you may want to sign up with a company aimed at inclusive billing for student properties. Once the house is full, we will send you some details about this.
What if I don't like the room I am offered?
If we have other vacancies we will see if we can offer an alternative, or we could keep you in mind for any cancellations that occur. However, our flexibility is limited as we only have as many rooms as there are places on the Paramedic Science course.
