I am delighted to welcome you to the BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science programme delivered by Oxford Brookes University’s Faculty of Health Science & Technology. As your Programme Director, I am here to help and advise you during your studies with us. Along with an introduction, I am pleased to provide some important information about starting your studies, and we are committed to providing an enjoyable, high-quality experience leading to your qualification as a Paramedic and graduation.
This website provides you with information to help you prepare for University this September, including a timetable for your freshers' week (Monday 15th to Friday 19th September), course reading list, a semester one/two timetable for your first year as a Student Paramedic and the following years.
We want your studies with us to be an enjoyable and successful pathway to paramedic registration. There will be many challenges to face along the way, but we offer lots of support from the Programme Team, Student Support Services and your fellow Students. Please take the opportunities to get involved in supporting your colleagues and developing the Programme; this will enhance your time at Oxford Brookes University and for future student groups.
From early August onward, if you become unconditional via UCAS, you will be sent an email from Admissions giving you the password to complete partial enrolment online, and a link to the university's new student pages for enrolment schedules and booklets. The Programme Team have provided the information on this site in addition to and separate from any you may receive about enrolment from Oxford Brookes Admissions Office.
IMPORTANT: Please note that you must still meet all the conditions of your offer before commencing your studies.
Other important contacts include:
James Currie (Programme Administrator) Email: j.currie@brookes.ac.uk. James provides administrative support, solves many student problems/queries or can direct them to an appropriate person.
Matthew Catterall (Programme Director) Email: matthew.catterall@brookes.ac.uk. I'll provide a consistent link between you, your cohort and the programme to support your studies as an Oxford Brookes University student.
Oxford is very well located and easy to get to from many places. It's only just over 50 miles away from central London, and just over 60 miles from Birmingham. Public transport links are excellent by both train and bus. The Marston Road Site is part of the Headington Campus; however, please note it is approximately 20-minute walk from the main Headington Campus.
We have an exciting first week planned for you at Oxford Brookes University! During this week, there are a variety of induction activities planned and information about the times can be found on the University New Students web page: https://www.brookes.ac.uk/new-students-welcome.
There are both programme and Faculty events to attend allowing you to get to know those on your course and other students. In addition, a session with South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust has also been planned for you during the first semester to fit uniforms.
We strongly advise you do not come by car, since parking is not available on-site and is very restricted in the surrounding area. Exceptions can be made for visitors with a disability permit.
I very much look forward to meeting you in September.
Matthew Catterall.
